About Issie
Issie Brown, is a passionate performer and educator, whose performance career has included as soloist in Ibert’s Flute Concerto with the Queensland Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra. As an orchestral musician, Issie has performed with the Australian Youth Orchestra (2022), Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Victoria Orchestra (2023), George Ellis Orchestra (2022), and Melbourne Youth Orchestra (2017).
Issie has extensive chamber music experience, especially with wind quintet Delma Winds. Delma Winds was invited to perform at the Queensland Ballet 2022 Season Launch, and at the Kenilworth Arts Festival (2019), as well as at Masterclasses with Diana Doherty and Musica Viva (2021), and the Los Angeles Philharmonic Wind Quintet (2019). Issie was also delighted to perform with some of Melbourne’s most talented young flautists in a concert entitled Fanciful Flutes (2023), organised by 2022 ABC Young Performer’s Award winner, Eliza Shephard.
In 2016, Issie achieved her AMusA, receiving the rare honour of a distinction. She was subsequently awarded the Leslie Barklamb Flute Award in 2017, which is offered to an AMusA flute candidate who demonstrates “exceptional performance skills”. These skills have continued to be acknowledged, most recently with an invitation to perform a recital on 3MBS live-to-air; and with 1st Prizes in the Victorian Flute Guild’s Leslie Barkamb Scholarship Competition (2023), and the Boroondara Eisteddfod’s Woodwind Open Age Section (2023). Issie earned her Bachelor of Music in Performance (Flute) with Distinction (2021) from the prestigious Queensland Conservatorium Griffith Univeristy, where her studies were guided by pre-eminent flautist, Virginia Taylor.
Issie has extensive experience teaching students across a broad range of ages and abilities. Issie was a valued flute, piano and music theory teacher at Harmonie Music Centre (Runcorn) from 2019-2021, and has taught a large number of private students since 2019. She has also tutored flute at the Mount Gravatt State High School music camp, and for the Young Australian Broadway Company’s production of Cats.
In her spare time, Issie enjoys reading, handicrafts, and language learning (namely French and German).
